POSITION: ICU RN Float 

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:.6-.75 FTE (48-60 hours pay/period)

WORK SCHEDULE: Days/Nights, Every 3rd Weekend

DEPARTMENT: Critical Cares Services - ICU

Overview:

The ICU is an 4-bed Intensive Care. We care for patients with different diagnosis including but not limited to: Congestive Heart Failure, Post-Trauma, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Acute Croup and Surgical Patients.

The unit schedules 2 ICU RN's and 1 Monitor Tech/CNA each shift, 24 hours/day and based on the number of ICU patients and the acuity of the patients.

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing. BSN preferred.

  • Equivalent of one (1) year Critical Care experience or two (2) years Medical Surgical experience within the past five years.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required and maintain certification.

  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) certification or attain certification within six months of employment and maintains certification.

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Comprehensive Advance Life Support (CALS) certification or attain certification within 12 months of initial orientation in the emergency department and maintain certification.

  • ECG recognition/interpretation within six months of employment.

*If no candidates meet the above requirements, consideration will be given to those with one (1) years relevant Medical/Surgical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) CCRN certification preferred.

Job Duties:

  1. Provides quality care to all patients and ensures patient safety throughout the continuum of patient care, advocates for the patient respecting advanced directives and patient decisions.

  2. Completes admission assessment according to unit policy, utilizing past medical history, therapeutic communication and physical assessment. Utilizes critical thinking and analysis.

  3. Identifies accurately nursing diagnosis/collaborative problems to determine appropriate interventions within the framework of accepted standards of care.

  4. Assesses the individual needs of the adult, geriatric, adolescent and pediatric patients and developing appropriate plans of care.

  5. Maintains accurate, objective patient records.

  6. Ensures efficiency and accuracy of orders.

  7. Assumes patient care responsibilities by organizing workload effectively and remaining flexible to environmental changes.

  8. Utilizes departments equipment correctly and efficiently; demonstrates knowledge of special preparations or equipment needed for department specific procedures.

  9. Nursing skills/competencies include but are not limited to: IV access, ECG interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation, airway management, pain management, neurological assessment, fluid management, infection control measures, respiratory management and sedation/analgesia assessment and monitoring.

  10. Will be cross-trained to work in the Med/Surg/Peds and ED taking patient assignments.
